S&P estimates potential losses on residential-mortgage bonds

Standard & Poor's is responding to criticism that its ratings on high-yield debt are too broad. The credit rating agency has started looking into potential losses on some residential-mortgage bonds. Banks and insurers said they expect small losses on many of the bonds they own despite their ratings.
