Survey: Discounts drive users to friend brands

A new study finds 44% of Twitter users and 33% of those on Facebook and MySpace say they follow or friend brands primarily to get discounts and hear about promotions. Customer service was the next most popular reason. The Razorfish survey cites Dell -- which has attracted $3 million in sales on Twitter -- as an example of successful social-media outreach.
