U.S. offshore-wind sector braces for rapid growth

America is the global leader in onshore wind energy but has yet to build an offshore turbine, according to analyst William Pentland. That could soon change, however, as about two dozen offshore-wind farms are in the pipeline as developers seek to tap into the 4,000 gigawatts of wind energy available along America's coastlines. "For many ... states, offshore wind is the most abundant indigenous energy source and the only commercial option for renewable power generation," writes Pentland.
