Amazon buys Yap, but is it a potential Siri rival?

Amazon reportedly has bought Yap, a speech-recognition technology company, in a move that some industry observers say is aimed at helping the Kindle Fire tablet maker compete with Apple's popular Siri personal-assistant software. They note that Yap started out trying to use voice recognition to interact with Web servers before switching its strategy because of technological issues. Others maintain, however, that Yap falls short of the artificial intelligence that Siri offers.
