How to help employees help themselves

Rather than tell workers how to do their jobs, ask them to perform a task until they think they're done, and then have them repeat it until they get it right, writes Angie Herbers, a consultant to financial planning firms. It's one way an advisory firm manager can help workers train themselves rather than creating a top-down culture, Herbers writes. Her other tips include encouraging employees to ask questions and offer comments, and becoming more of a coach than a boss.
