Railroads play a key role in providing jobs to veterans

Military veterans comprise more than one-fifth of the workforces of large freight railroads such as CSX and Union Pacific, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Veterans find the skills they learned in the military are similar to what railroads need, making it easy for them to adapt, said AAR spokeswoman Holly Arthur. "It's an area where you do not need a college degree to get a job right away, but it's also a true career," she said. "That's a great match."
