Toy catalogs reveal more than which toys are popular

A quick flip through a retailer's toy catalog indicates that gender inequity, female stereotyping and sexist attitudes remain prevalent in the marketing and advertising realm, writes Richard Gottlieb. Few girls are shown riding vehicles, and there are no boys seen on the doll pages. The one place where gender doesn't seem to be prevalent are the pages featuring technology toys, he writes.
