Treatment of coronary disease moves toward team-based care

Surgeons and interventionalists are joining "heart teams" designed to provide collaborative care for patients with stable coronary disease, according to Dr. J. Jeffrey Marshall of Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He said the new care guidelines can be attributed to lessons from the SYNTAX trial, which looked at outcomes from coronary disease treated with stents or bypass surgery.
