Arts education impacts academic scores

Many teachers say the arts are a crucial part of the school day for many students, not only because such subject matter offers a well-rounded education, but because studies show that lessons in the arts boost academic achievement. However, as officials watch their budgets tighten, students in one Ohio school district said they feared art and music programs would be cut at their school, as they have been in other school districts struggling to find funding.
