Bloomberg wants 6-cent fee on plastic bags in New York City

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has proposed a 6-cent charge for each plastic shopping bag used by consumers. In Plymouth, Mass., however, a recent effort to ban plastic bags was rejected in favor of a plan to emphasize and educate about recycling, with the help of groups such as the American Chemistry Council. "Plastic is too valuable to waste. It should be recycled," said Shari Jackson, director of the ACC's Progressive Bag Affiliates unit.
