Kashkari says Treasury seeks balance in aid to banks

Neel T. Kashkari, the Treasury Department's interim assistant secretary for financial stabilization, appeared recently at the Wharton Finance Conference to discuss and defend the $700 billion financial rescue plan. Kashkari said the Treasury is working toward "a healthy balance" of disarming banks while not damaging their viability. He also defended the Treasury for altering the plan several times, saying the moves were necessary as the circumstances changed.
