Program allows teacher candidates to learn about special needs

The University of Central Florida recently received a grant to continue a program in which teacher candidates work at a local charter school for students with disabilities. The program helps would-be teachers become more comfortable educating children of all abilities. Sometimes, new general-education teachers do not know what to do when teaching students with special needs, said one UCF associate professor. "At UCF, we're trying to change that," she said.
