BP was not ready for Gulf oil spill, Hayward says

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill and the media scrutiny that followed caught BP by surprise, former CEO Tony Hayward said. During an interview with BBC, Hayward said BP's contingency plans were insufficient to immediately address the disaster. He said that "extraordinary engineering" was being done to stop the flow of hydrocarbons, but it appeared to be incompetence in front of the media.
