FDA chief says budget cuts need careful consideration

FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg said lawmakers working to reduce federal spending should "proceed with real care" before cutting the FDA's budget because "there isn't any other entity that will backstop behind" the agency if it fails to perform its job. During their campaigns, Republicans, who have gained control of the House, vowed to reduce taxpayer funding for government agencies.
