Small businesses are slightly more optimistic, data shows

Small-business owners became slightly more optimistic in October, according to the National Federation of Independent Business optimism index, which increased 2.7 points to 91.7. However, the index "is still a recession-level reading based on index values since 1973," NFIB said. Both the employment subindex and outlook for sales improved in October.
