BSEE to carefully impose rules for offshore contractors

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement will be careful in implementing rules covering offshore-drilling contractors and service companies, said BSEE Director Michael Bromwich. "We did not take this step lightly, nor did we take it before fully satisfying ourselves that we had the legal authority to do so," Bromwich said. He added that it was inappropriate for BSEE to exempt such firms from offshore oil and natural gas policies, particularly after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
