Surveys: Kindle Fire could eat into iPad holiday sales

Surveys from ChangeWave and Retrevo indicate that a large number of shoppers may opt to buy Amazon's $199 Kindle Fire tablet this holiday season instead of the $499 iPad. Amazon wasn't surprised by the research: The company reportedly has upped its 2011 delivery orders for the tablet by 25%, to 5 million units. The shopping comparison site Retrevo and market researcher ChangeWave both found that potential demand for the Kindle Fire outweighed support for the iPad, though Retrevo said many consumers still think the Kindle Fire is just an e-reader.
