Canine flea prevention products are dangerous for cats

Products designed to kill fleas on dogs are not safe to use on cats, veterinarian Lee Pickett writes in response to an owner's note about her own experience -- after applying one drop of her dog's flea prevention medication to her cat, the cat died despite prompt veterinary care. Pyrethroids, neurotoxins that paralyze and kill insects, are also toxic to cats, Dr. Pickett explains. Also in this column, Dr. Pickett addresses a question about the necessity of multiple vaccines for puppies.
