A dearth of U.S. economic data this week is expected to heighten investor attention to signals emerging from the Federal Reserve that might indicate an earlier-than-expected tapering of its bond-buying program. At stake is the current stock market surge. "There needs to be some sort of catalyst, and that [a change in Fed policy] would be the No. 1 catalyst that I think could happen," said Uri Landesman, president of Platinum Partners in New York.
