Morbillivirus dolphin toll is highest ever, experts say

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that 753 dolphins have succumbed to the ongoing morbillivirus outbreak along the Atlantic coast, already more than the previous record of 740 deaths documented between the summer of 1987 and spring of 1988. Investigators have also identified the virus in other cetacean species including humpback and pygmy whales.
