U.K. trade gap in goods grows

The U.K. trade deficit in goods came in at a larger-than-expected £9.8 billion in September, a result that indicates little lift in U.K. growth from international trade. "The U.K. is not doing enough to plug the export gap and rebalance our economy towards net exports," said David Kern, chief economist at the British Chambers of Commerce. Meanwhile, separate figures showed construction output was down 0.9% in September.
