FDA chief: Personalized medicine will spur industry collaborations

Major medical advances and scientific discoveries will bring together drugmakers, small biotech firms and medical-device manufacturers to develop more personalized treatments for patients with cancer and other life-threatening diseases, according to FDA chief Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach. These developments also could change the way companies test treatments and force the FDA to overhaul its drug-review process, von Eschenbach said.
