Study cites heart risk in mixing Plavix with heartburn drugs

A study funded by Medco Health Solutions showed that heart-stent patients who use Plavix with proton-pump inhibitors, such as Nexium or Prilosec, had a 50% overall increased risk of cardiac events. The finding indicates that the inhibitors, which are designed to avert stomach bleeding and ulcers, may disrupt enzymes that play a key role in the efficacy of Plavix.
