Alaska CEO: Small is beautiful in a recession

Alaska Air Group CEO Bill Ayer says a smaller network of 90 cities may be an advantage during an economic downturn. Alaska reported a third-quarter profit amidst other industry losses. The carrier has sought to maintain its independence, despite speculation that it would make an attractive takeover target for a big network carrier.
