Asthma self-management training helps children, parents

Data from an asthma education program in Maine showed emergency department visits dropped 25 percentage points and the number of asthmatic children requiring hospitalization went from 30% to 1% over nine years. The one-on-one education/self-management training helped children and families understand that asthma is a chronic disease and taught them how to use medications, avoid triggers and handle flares.
