EU mandates consent for online cookies

Europe's online advertising industry may soon have to get more creative in the way it targets consumers. In late October, the European Union passed a law that essentially requires Internet users to give their consent for "cookies" to be posted on their computers when they visit a Web site. However, one industry leader suggested that a kind of permanent consent could be included as an option in browser settings.
