Fighting gun violence with microphones

In 45 cities across the U.S., ShotSpotter microphones are listening for gunshots and dispatching police when one is detected. Police say the technology discourages gun crime, justifying its cost of $25,000 per square mile of coverage. ShotSpotter monitors about 125 square miles in the U.S., and CEO James Beldock has his eye on the global market.
