Firm introduces home-automation gear with energy management

IControl, the maker of broadband home-networking gear, has branched out into energy management with a new software tool and equipment, saying Tuesday that it will enter a field being eyed by dozens of companies, including telecoms. The Palo Alto, Calif.-based iControl said it hoped to ally with utility companies to reach consumers with a smart-meter system using a wireless protocol that the company introduced Tuesday.
