Palestinians might still force UN vote

Palestinians might demand a vote next week at the United Nations Security Council on their application for full UN membership, which is destined for defeat, in order to pressure countries to publicly justify why they do not support a Palestinian state. After the vote, Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority, could nevertheless pursue the lesser status of "observer state" at the world body in order to save face, and deflect attacks by his political rivals.
