Instructional coach Ben Johnson describes in this blog post how he used mastery learning to take control of an unruly middle-school Spanish class. He enlisted the students who had more advanced language skills -- who also typically were involved in disrupting the class -- to teach and test their peers on basic Spanish concepts. "Refocusing the effort of my Spanish-speaking students using mastery learning has made all the difference," he writes.
