South Korean Pepero Day faces Japanese challenger

Lotte Confectionery has found much success with Pepero Day, Nov. 11, since 1994 when "legend" has it that school girls began giving each other the company's Pepero chocolate-coated pretzel sticks. A similar tradition sprang up on the same date in Japan with the Ezaki Glico Co.'s Pocky Day, and since Pocky became available in South Korea this summer, the stage is set for a battle of Pepero Day vs. Pocky Day.
