Study: Excess weight, larger waist linked to higher death risk in women

Researchers studying Women's Health Initiative data on more than 36,000 women determined that obese women and those with a waist size larger than 34.6 inches had an increased risk of death, major chronic disease and disability before reaching age 85. The study appeared in JAMA Internal Medicine.
