Students make history with textbook-free concept

Fifth-grade history students at Flamingo Elementary have been learning about U.S. history in Miami-Dade's only paperless classroom, and the technology initiative has taken off at the school. With the help of a $500,000 federal grant in 1999, the students use Web sites to do research, create PowerPoint presentations rather than write essays and even receive e-mail assistance from their teacher.
