Casual chains turn to coupons to boost holiday traffic

Contrary to past marketing patterns, casual-dining restaurants are offering a slew of coupons as the holiday season approaches in order to combat slow sales due to the housing crisis, high fuel prices and an unpredictable economy. "It's like a perfect storm hitting casual dining right now," said Clay Dover, chief concept officer of Metromedia Restaurant Group, parent of Bennigan's. Brands entering the coupon wars include Ruby Tuesday, IHOP, Smokey Bones and T.G.I. Friday's.
