Syngenta aims to speed biofuel production with corn enzyme

European seed and crop-protection company Syngenta announced that its corn amylase enzyme -- which could replace the need to add an enzyme separately to convert corn into ethanol -- has been approved for trials by the FDA. A company spokesman said the breakthrough will help speed manufacturing of ethanol.
