State budget cuts worry education leaders

Deficits in state budgets around the U.S. may result in more cuts to education budgets, many state schools officials fear. In California, the governor is proposing $2.5 billion in education cuts, which is on top of a $500 million reduction already made to the state's education budget. Superintendent Jack O'Connell has asserted that the newest cuts would cause "catastrophic disruption in our schools and harm to our students in the middle of the school year."
