Clubs encouraged to keep up with the times

Letchworth Golf Club President Sir Tim Wilson had a clear message to the audience at Golf Club Management Association's national conference in the U.K.: golf traditions can impede the growth of the game if they clash with modern values. One particular issue he singles out is women in clubs. When he was president of his club in 2000 he worked to remove the policy preventing women from using the club's bar. "That mindset about the importance of traditions wasn't just off-putting for women, but for younger people and the majority of members."
