Federal budget cuts are hurting many college-research projects

Across-the-board federal budget cuts under sequestration have affected research at 81% of colleges and universities responding to a recent survey by the Association of American Universities, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities and the Science Coalition. Since the cuts took effect in March, many of the 74 colleges and universities surveyed said they had laid off staff, admitted fewer graduate students and delayed research projects.
