How to negotiate a starting salary

Employers expect job candidates to negotiate salaries before starting a job, but nearly half don't, authors Camille Sweeney and Josh Gosfield write. The pair also offer tips from CareerBuilder's Rosemary Haefner, who says candidates must be prepared to outline why their skills are worth more and avoid getting emotional. "The key is to get over the emotion and think of your skills as objective data. Just offer the facts," Haefner advises.
