Md. city will lobby state assembly to change liquor law

Bowie, Md., officials plan to propose legislation to the state General Assembly that would permit the sale of beer and wine at small-scale grocers. The effort will be the city's third consecutive year of trying to change liquor law so Bowie can attract grocers such as Trader Joe's. Liquor-store owners oppose the effort, saying allowing grocery sales of beer and wine would negatively affect their businesses.
