More people worldwide are undergoing dialysis for end-stage renal disease

Globally, the prevalence of maintenance dialysis for end-stage renal disease rose 165% between 1990 and 2010, surpassing population growth in most regions, according to a report presented at the American Society of Nephrology's Kidney Week. In places with access to universal dialysis, the rate of maintenance dialysis rose by 134% in the last 20 years after population growth and aging were taken into account.
