New technologies have shifted demand for cosmetic surgery away from invasive procedures and toward less-invasive techniques, but patients must temper their expectations and perhaps be even more vigilant as more practitioners offer procedures, plastic surgeons say. "Everybody is looking for no down time, limited cost, maximum results. In many things ... you don't get major improvement from minor procedures," said plastic surgeon Robert Singer, former president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. When choosing a doctor, patients should look for board certification in plastic surgery and investigate the doctor's training and experience, Singer and other plastic surgeons say.
