Scottsdale, Ariz., courses stay green using recycled wastewater

For more than 15 years, 23 courses in Scottsdale, Ariz., have significantly cut down on the amount of potable water they use to stay green by switching to a wastewater system paid for entirely by the golf clubs. "It made us very innovative, and we were the first city in the Valley to come up with this concept," said Annie DeChance, public outreach manager for the city’s Water Resources Department. "When you wash your hands in the sink or flush the toilet or take a shower, that water has to go somewhere and we have to do something with it. This is the way for us to make the most of it."
