SEC's Cox says he'd back sole regulator for brokerage firms

SEC Chairman Christopher Cox told a meeting of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association that he would support a plan to create a single regulator to oversee the brokerage firms. Cox's remarks come amid talks between the National Association of Securities Dealers and NYSE Group Inc.'s New York Stock Exchange to combine their regulatory functions.
