Congress approves funding to improve levees around Kansas City

Congress last week approved legislation that includes a plan to improve flood levees along the Missouri and Kansas rivers. Work could begin in 2009, noted John Grothaus, planning section chief for the Army Corps of Engineers in Kansas City. "The system performed well in the 1993 flood," Grothaus said, "but we've identified some concerns and issues that need to be addressed."
