E*Trade, hit by subprime meltdown, sees shares drop 59%

Online brokerage firm E*Trade Financial Corp. is the latest casualty in the fallout of the subprime-mortgage market. Shares of the company fell 59% Monday after an analyst warned of shaky securities on its books. Besides its primary, online investing business, E*Trade runs a bank that buys and makes mortgage loans.
