Shares of commodity- and technology-related companies as well as banks led significant losses throughout Asia-Pacific markets today. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 Average fell 5.5%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dropped 5% and South Korea's Kospi declined 3.2%. Indonesia's JSX Composite dropped 5%, the Straits Times Index in Singapore lost 1.6%, New Zealand's NZX 50 dipped 1.5% and the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong fell 5.2%. Meanwhile, China's Shanghai Composite gained 3.7%.
