At the St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church of the Deaf in Maryland, people who cannot hear have gathered since 1859 to pray together with others with hearing disabilities. "They enjoy being around other deaf people and people who can sign," said Katrina Meacham, whose two young children have cochlear implants. "They need to have role models that are like them."
