Blood transfusion saves pet with rare infection

Jasper still has eight of his nine lives thanks to his owner, his veterinarian and a feline blood donor. The kitten, adopted from a shelter, was diagnosed with mycoplasma, a rare blood infection transmitted by fleas that causes life-threatening anemia and is treated with antibiotics, steroids and blood transfusions.
