EIA: Maine residents turn to alt-fuels, oil consumption declines

Oil consumption in Maine has declined as residents switch to alternative fuels like propane, wood pellets and natural gas for home heating, according to a report by the Energy Information Administration. Oil marketers in the state are responding to the trend by selling propane and other heating options. The decline is attributed to the emergence of more efficient burners and a weak economy, prompting residents to reduce spending, officials say.
